Several sources cite dandelion flowers as the best indicator for when to plant potatoes. Since the town seems to be covered in them we got digging.
In two rows at the back of the plot, we planted 5 Red Pontiac, 9 Green Mountain, 8 Fingerling. Worked lime and fertilizer into each hole before putting the potatoes in. We could have cut the tubers to increase yields but we had plenty so we just planted them whole.
We purchased 2 bales of salt marsh hay from Erikson’s Feed and Grain to mulch the walk ways.
